PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner which can feed cooler and warmer air by rotating a diffuser forming the lower part of an air outlet upward both during cooling and heating to throttle the area of the air outlet increase an air velocity and extend an arrival distance. SOLUTION: A heat exchanger 5 and a blast fan 6 are situated in an air passage 4 of a body casing 1a, a vertical air direction plate 7 is pivotally supported at the lower tip part of the air outlet 3. When the vertical wind direction plate 7 is rotated to an approximately vertical position, the diffuser 9 is rotated downward. In this air conditioner, during cooling operation that the vertical wind direction plate 7 is rotated to an approximately horizontal position and during heating operation that the plate is rotated to an approximately vertical position, the diffuser 9 can be rotated upward.
