METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING A COLOUR PIGMENT PLASTICS MATERIAL

Apparatus for producing a colour pigment plastics material comprises a grinder (3) for grinding pigment material into powder. A mixer (9) and extruder (12) mix the ground colour pigment material with plastics which is in turn extruded through nozzles (15) of an extrusion head (14) to form strands (16) of the pigment plastics material. The strands (16) are delivered through a cooling bath (17) and drawn by pinch rollers (33) and (34) into a granulator (30). Rollers (21), (22) and (23) in the bath (17) are adjustable to vary the time period during which the strands (16) are immersed in the cooling tank (17). A framework (50) supports a bag (51) for transporting the ground colour pigment from the grinder (3) to the mixer (9). Inverted engagement cups (58) on the framework (50) engage upstanding members (60) on the framework (8) for mounting the bag (51) above a hopper (10) of the mixer (9). An opening (62) is cut in the bottom of the bag (51) for discharging pigment into the hopper (10).
