PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device and its driving method in which generation of reverse transition is suppressed and video display is made possible when a liquid crystal mode is selected to conduct displaying by transitioning to an orientation state that is different with respect to a non- displaying. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device, video signals are successively written into a plurality of pixels for every frame (TF), voltage Vd1 to Vdn corresponding to the video signals are held in each pixel and video is displayed by controlling the degree of modulation of a liquid crystal layer which is transitioned to orientation states for displaying in accordance with the voltages being held. Within a holding period Th of the voltages Vd1 to Vdn corresponding to the video signals, a reverse transition preventing voltageΔV that prevents reverse transition in the liquid crystal layer is temporarily superimposed to the voltages Vd1 to Vdn.
