PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a user by referring not only to a present state but also to the history of a past state and displaying a help message. CONSTITUTION:When the state of a system changes, a new state is stored in a history buffer 60. When there is a help request from the user, a message corresponding to a message number which is decided by an inference engine 70 is retrieved among message data bases 50a and 50b and the corresponding message is displayed. The inference engine 70 causes an inference rule in rule data bases 80a, 80b to fit to information in a history buffer 60, executes inference, and decides the message number to be displayed. The past state of the system is stored in the history buffer 60 and the inference engine 70 executes inference based on the content of the buffer 60 at the time of deciding the message number. Consequently, more adequate inference can be executed compared to inference only from the present state. |
