The invention provides a tape cassette in which there is provided a lock member including an attached part for being attached to the housing to support the lock member; an engaging part capable of moving between a locking position on which the engaging part comes in engagement with the protrusion of a front lid to lock the front lid on the closed condition and a releasing position on which the engaging part comes out of the engagement to allow the front lid to pivot to the open condition; a resilient part for generating a biasing force in accordance with a position of the engaging part and for biasing the engaging part to the locking position; and a releasing part responsible to an external actuating member for overcoming the biasing force of the resilient member to move the engaging part to the releasing position.
