An assembly for providing axial slrain relief to a splice between two cables that each comprise an apertured layer; the assembly comprising: (a) one or more spacers, that can be positioned, to space the apertured layers of each cable from the inner components thereof; (b) a support sleeve that can be positioned to surround each of the apertured layers; and (c) a bonding material which can flow during installation of the assemble through the apertured layers, to bond the sleeve to each of the apertured layers. i
