摘要 <p>New ceramic composite comprises a crystallised glass as a matrix and ceramic fibres or whiskers as reinforcing materials. The adhesive strength at the interface between the crystallised glass and the reinforcing material is lower than the material strength of the crystallised glass or the reinforcing material. The amt. of reinforcing material is 50 vol. % or more. The ceramics in the reinforcing material are of the oxide type and contains 10 wt. % or more of oxygen. The compsn. of the material crystallised glass is pref: Li20-SiO2-A1 203, Na20-A1203-Si02, Na20-CaO-MgO-SiO2, MgO-A1203-SiO2, PbO-ZnO-B203, ZnO-B203-SiO2, or SiO2-B203-A1203-MgO-K20-F. The reinforcing fibres are 10cm or more in length. The ceramic composite material is produced by (1) melting a starting glass in the presence of the oxide ceramic fibres under a high pressure and at a temp. higher than the mp of the starting glass but lower than the mp of the ceramic, and (2) crystallising the glass. In step (1) melted glass fills the voids in the ceramic and the excess glass is forced out.</p>
