PURPOSE:To obtain a pH electrode and a reference electrode free from the influence of coexistence of obstructing ions by covering a polymer film with a glass film to prevent the transmission of the obstructing ions. CONSTITUTION:An electrode element 10 is produced as follows: An electric insulator 12 such as polyolefin and teflon covers the perimeter of an electrode substrate 11A made of a conductor such as platinum, silver, tungsten, titanium, copper and steel, a platinum-affiliated metal film 11B or a polymer film 13 derived from a hydroxy aromatic compound or a nitrogen containing aromatic compound is applied on the exposed surface and a glass film 14 is formed on the polymer film 13 by vacuum accumulation. The silicic dioxide glass film 14 preferably employs a mixed glass such as Na2O-Al2O3-SiO2 glass with respect to the response speed, the stability of balanced potential value, reproducibility and the like. |
