PURPOSE:To facilitate the removal of a deposit on the surface of an electrode while achieving a reduction in the loss of an electrode and an extension of the life thereof utilizing the nature of relatively high resistance to corrosion in an acid solution by using highly pure aluminum as electrode material. CONSTITUTION:Highly pure aluminum has a chemical nature that when it is left alone in the air, it loses luster with the generation of a thin film of oxide but not be corroded inside thereof. It is dissolved into acid to form a corresponding salt but is not corroded relatively by concentrated nitric acid. A resistance increases with a decrease in purity. Aluminum is higher in ionization tendency than zinc and is more susceptible to oxidization. In comparison of equilibrium between zinc and aluminum, Al<3+>+3e Al-1.66 (Volt), Zn<2+>+2 e Zn-0.76 (Volt) holds. Accordingly, highly pure aluminum is preferable as electrode material. |
