PURPOSE: A self-dispersible bipyridine-based metal complex and an ink composition comprising the same complex are provided, which self-dispersible bipyridine-based metal complex is used as a coloring agent itself, is able to exhibit various colors by coupling with prior coloring agents, and additionally improves endurance such as light resistance. CONSTITUTION: The self-dispersible bipyridine-based metal complex represented by formula (1) is provided, wherein W1, W2 and W4 are independently an atom forming 4- to 8-membered cyclic heteroaryl or heterocycloalkenyl; W3 is an atom forming 0- to 8-membered cyclic cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, aryl, heteroaryl, heterocycloalkyl or heterocycloalkenyl; n is 0 to 100; R1, R2, R3 and R4 are mono-substituent or multi-substituent, and independently hydrogen, halogen, nitro, -SO3H, -COOH, optionally substituted C1-C20 alkyl, optionally substituted C1-C20 heteroalkyl, hydroxy, amino, cyano, optionally substituted C2-C20 alkenyl, optionally substituted C1-C20 alkoxy, optionally substituted C1-C20 alkylsulfonamide, optionally substituted C6-C20 arylsulfonamide, optionally substituted C1-C20 acylamino, C1-C20 alkylureido, C6-C20 arylureido, C2-C20 alkoxycarbonyl, C2-C20 alkoxycarbonylamino, carbamoyl, sulfamoyl, sulfo and its salt, carboxy and its salt, optionally substituted C1-C20 hydroxyalkyloxyalkyl, optionally substituted C1-C20 dialkylaminoalkyl, optionally substituted C6-C20 pyridylalkyl, optionally substituted C5-C20 pyridyl, optionally substituted C6-C20 imidazolyl, hydrazine, hydrozone, C1-C20 optionally substituted pyridylalkyl, optionally substituted C6-C20 aryl, optionally substituted C6-C20 arylalkyl, optionally substituted C6-C20 heteroaryl, or C6-C20 heteroarylalkyl, C6-C20 optionally substituted heteroarylalkenyl, or C3-C20 optionally substituted heterocycloalkyl; R5 and R6 are independently monosubstituted hydrophilic function group or identical or different multi-substituted hydrophilic function group; M is Group 3 to 14 metal atom; X is anionic moiety; Y is neutral moiety; Z is counterion; and o, p, q are independently an integer of 0 to 10, except that o and q are 0 simultaneously.
