The present invention relates to an apparatus for measuring pressure by using a U-tube, similar to the technique of Toricelli barometers. By extension, it can be applied to the measurement of temperatures. The originality of the system resides in the fact that the tube supporting the liquid is not a simple cylindrical tube, as in the case of traditional barometers, but is formed by the annular space 1 between two transparent cylindrical tubes 2 and 3. This allows better visibility of the pressure indication. The apparatus is adjusted by simply adding water 5 into the other column 4. This also makes it possible to compensate for altitude effects. Finally, the apparatus can be used as a thermometer. The pressure in a closed container 6 of quasi-constant volume is then measured using an apparatus similar to that described herein above. The invention applies to the measurement of atmospheric pressure or temperature, both in the laboratory and in the home. This method makes it possible to produce apparatuses of attractive appearance. <IMAGE>
