MANUFACTURE OF COMPOUND SUPERCONDUCTIVE STRANDED WIRE

PURPOSE:To obtain a superconductive stranded wire applicable to alternating current use in such as a superconductive generator by applying plastic working to a stranded compound superconductor provided on an outer peripheral surface of a stabilized conductor to be consolidated and then diffusing the compound superconductor by heat. CONSTITUTION:An outer peripheral surface of a conductor 2 is coated with a diffusion preventing layer 3. An outer peripheral surface of the diffusion preventing layer 3 is further coated with an alloy layer 4 to form a stabilized conductor 1. A stranded wire conductor 9 made of in situ wire plated with Sn is formed around the conductor 1. The conductor 9 is heated at a low temperature to obtain a primary stranded conductor 10. The conductor 10 is consolidated by plastic working to deform the conductor 9 into rectangle at the cross section thereof so as to choke a gap. A wire 12 having consolidated conductor 11 is then formed. A plurality of the wires 12 converged to be stranded to form a secondary stranded conductor 13. The conductor 13 is diffused by heat to obtain a superconductive stranded wire. Thus, the superconductive stranded wire with improved rigidity at stranded portion thereof and better processability in alternating current use is obtained.
