A sensor for measuring absorption of electromagnetic radiation (4) by a sample (3) comprising a heat conducting solid element (1) which is transparent to said radiation and is in thermal contact with a thermal detector (2) which measures the increase in temperature induced in the sample (3) by absorption of radiation (4).
