Process for the preparation of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) by reaction of methanol with a mixture of hydrocarbons containing isobutene. The invention is characterised in that: - the reactants are introduced into a reaction-distillation zone which contains at least two superposed and nonadjoining stationary beds (2a,2b) of catalyst of sulphonated resin type, in which beds passages are arranged for a vapour phase, at least one distillation tray (4a), at least one liquid redistribution tray (5), - the distillation conditions are maintained in the said zone so as to have a descending liquid phase and an ascending vapour phase, - a continuous liquid phase is maintained in the lower part of the said beds, - a vapour phase rich in unconverted hydrocarbons is discharged at the top (8) of the said zone, - a liquid phase rich in MTBE is drawn from the bottom (10) of the said zone. <IMAGE> |
