The head, for a machine for automatically welding, blind, the end of a tube 3 to the inner face 5 of the tube plate of a cooling-tower manifold, this head being intended to be inserted via the orifice 7 located opposite the tube 3, in the plug plate 1, is constituted by: - a torch 8 arranged on its axial support 13, the transverse size of the torch-support assembly, in the inactive welding position, is substantially less than the internal diameter D of the orifice 7; - a centring device 21 arranged at the end of the support 13; - a support-guiding flange 19 fixed to the plug plate 1; - means in the form of a deformable parallelogram, for allowing lateral movement of the torch in relation to its support 13 and for thus placing it in the active welding position. The head according to the invention thus makes it possible to carry out welding operations blind in locations not accessible to ordinary heads. <IMAGE>
