The present invention relates to the processes for making an emission cathode for high-density power laser tubes. The process consists in forming a metal wire 1 based on tungsten and containing a doping element, for exmaple thorium or strontium, in shaping it into a cathode 2 and in placing it inside a laser tube 3 at the location 4 intended for the cathode, with its two ends situated outside the tube, in evacuating 9 the laser tube of any gas whilst heating the wire by Joule effect, and then filling it 11, after a first period of heating the wire, with a rare gas such as krypton, whilst continuing to heat the wire during a second period, and in evacuating the tube of the rare gas. Application: the making of laser generators of the ionised argon type. <IMAGE>
