PURPOSE:To preclude out-of-focus photography by discriminating whether or not a current subject is an object of distance measurement which causes distance mismeasurement with the output of a displacement quantity calculating means. CONSTITUTION:Light receiving means 5 and 6 detect the incidence position of a projection reflection image on the subject in two dimensions and the range finder has a subject information calculating means 3 which calculates subject distance information from the output of a light receiving means 1 parallel to the base line direction and the displacement quantity calculating means 4 which calculates the quantity of displacement of the center of gravity of the projection reflection image at right angles to the base line direction from the output of the photodetecting means in the direction perpendicular to the base line. Then it is discriminated whether the current subject is an object of distance measurement which causes distance mismeasurement with the output of the displacement quantity calculating means 4. When so, a discrimination means 81 generates a warning. Consequently, a photographer is informed that a proper distance measurement result is not obtained in such a case and out-of-focus photography is precluded. |
