PURPOSE:To remove the gas generated during welding and to form a good weld zone having no cavity defects in electron beam welding by providing a recess in the contact surfaces in the weld line direction and providing further a space in the welding beam direction to the cylindrical welding surface. CONSTITUTION:A recess having the height (g) narrower than a beam width (w) and an adequate width is provided on one or both sides of plate materials within the contact surfaces in the weld line direction of said materials. A partial space 12 is further provided in the weld line direction to a cylindrical welding surface 11. The gas generated by electron beam welding in a vacuum is released from the open part at the shortest distance and is prevented from remaining any more in the weld zone. The good weld zone having no cavity defects is thus obtd. |
