The intention is to design a fuel injection nozzle of the generic type in such a manner that, with simple and space-saving means, the entire injection cross-section, related to a working cycle of the valve plug (18), can be changed in a controlled manner and can be matched, for the purpose of optimum atomisation, to the injection quantity required in the particular operating conditions. According to the invention, the control element, which influences the entire injection cross-section, is designed as an end journal (56) of the valve plug (18), which dips into the blind hole (40), is provided on its circumference with control flanks (68) preferably running parallel to the nozzle axis, and the rotation of which is brought about by the action of the control means on the valve plug (18). The preferred area of use is diesel engines with direct injection. <IMAGE>
