PURPOSE:To obtain a porous separating membrane having high mechanical strength and improved chemical and oil resistance by irradiating a radiation- crosslinking polymer film with high-energy charged particles to cause irradiation damages to the film, chemically etching this film to form a porous membrane and crosslinking the porous membrane by irradiation with electron beams, gamma-rays or the like. CONSTITUTION:A film of a radition-crosslinking polymer such as polyethylene, an ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymer, polystyrene or polyvinylidene fluride is irradiated with high-energy charged particles (in an energy range >=1MeV) substantially at right angles with respect to the film to cause irradiation damages to the film. This film is chemically etched by immersion in an etchant for a given time, and then crosslinked by irradiation with electron beams or gamma-rays (at a dose of usually several Mrad to several tens of Mrad) to obtain a porous separating membrane. |
