摘要 In the case of internal-combustion piston engines the piston -connecting rod - crank principle has become predominant. The static and sliding friction caused by the piston, connecting-rod and crankshaft mountings result in considerable frictional losses. In contrast, rolling friction operates in a virtually frictionless manner. The object was to find a solution in order to be able to use rolling-friction bearings without increasing the size and costs of the construction. The solution to the object: 1. the crank is replaced by an eccentric, 2. the connecting rod is shortened in such a manner that there is no longer any rod between its bolt holes and the holes in the eccentric, 3. the piston rod is connected fixedly to the piston and is guided by roller-mounted rollers of the rod-guiding means. By these means the principle of rod - connecting rod - eccentric is formed. Fig. 2 shows a two-stroke engine with the eccentric drive. With this principle of construction the reciprocating piston motion in the cylinder is converted into the rotary motion of the shaft by the rod, connecting rod and eccentrics. The advantages: low frictional losses, no piston wear and only slight cylinder wear.
