<p>Apparatus for testing samples, particularly sawn timber to determine moisture content, density, presence of knots or pith, slope of grain and parallelism of fibres, using plane polarised microwave radiation. The apparatus includes means (7-11) to supply the radiation to a sample (1) and means (12-17) to detect radiation transmitted through the sample. The supply and detection means include means (10 and 14) to adjustably rotate the polarisation plane of the supplied and received microwave radiation. The apparatus may comprise one arm of a bridge circuit having another reference arm (5).</p> |
