Device for producing plastic straps tensioned around packages, with an advancing and tensioning device for the strap, and with a welding device formed by a hot blade which can be pushed in and out between the two overlapping band ends essentially parallel with respect to the band ends, and with an appliance which engages on the longitudinal edges of the overlapping band ends and is used for aligning in particular the weld areas of the overlapping band ends over one another. This aligning appliance is formed by a slide which can be advanced, parallel with respect to the band planes of the overlapping band ends, essentially rectilinearly towards their longitudinal edges and pushes the overlapping band ends, with the longitudinal edges directed away from the slide, towards fixed stops.
