To measure the pressure in a vessel having flexible walls or otherwise provided with an external elastic membrane, a coplanar array of pressure sensors (12) or transducers is applied against the elastic vessel wall, the internal pressure of the vessel is taken as the value at a point when at least three of the transducers (12), arranged in a triangular configuration, measure the same pressure. - Preferably there is a fourth central transducer, the transducers are Wheatstone bridge type, and a lead screw passing through a housing is used to push the array a controlled distance towards the vessel wall.
