A METHOD OF PRODUCING A MULTIPLE LAYER IDENTIFICATION CARD, AN APPARATUS FOR PRACTICING SUCH METHOD AND AN IDENTIFICATION CARD

The card is formed of several layers of film (2 to 8) which are printed by means of various printing technologies. The light-transparent films (4,5) are printed with card-holder-specific information items, digitally stored in a preceding cycle, by means of a digital printing method. The cover films (2,6), the base film (8) and other films are printed both digitally and by means of conventional printing methods. The card also exhibits transparent areas (24) in the plane of the card, which can be optically scanned from the edge of the card and form optical structure data which are characteristic of each card.
