A composite film (1a) serves for producing containers, in particular tubes. It has outer layers (2, 10) and a supporting layer (4) of stretched polyester located in between them. The outer layers of polyester permit unproblematical bonding to parts of the container which likewise consist of polyester. A metal layer (5) adjoining on the side of the supporting or intermediate layer facing away from the content of the container ensures together with the intermediate layer of stretched polyester that there is good gas tightness and aroma impermeability. The intermediate layer (4) of stretched polyester in this case prevents aggressive product in the container being able to diffuse through to the metal layer. If the composite film is used for producing tubes, like materials, namely amorphous polyester, lie on top of each other in the seam overlap region of the longitudinal seam of the tube, so that good sealing can be obtained during bonding (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
