A cover (1) for a vehicle air bag (2) comprises an external surface layer (1A) injection-molded from a thermoplastic material having a JIS-A hardness of 20 to 90 (determined by JIS K6301 -1975), and a core layer (1B) injection-molded from a thermoplastic material having a modulus of elasticity of not less than about 1000 kg/cm<2> as determined by JIS K7203- 1982, and a hardness greater than that of the surface layer. The core has weakened zones along which the cover breaks when the air bag is inflated. The softer surface layer does not cause discomfort to an occupant of the vehicle on contact therewith but the relatively hard inner layer resists deformation. Also, on fracture of the cover on inflation of the bag, fragments of the core do not scatter in the vehicle and are held together by the surface layer. …<IMAGE>… |
