<p>A self cleaning filter comprises a filter cylinder (11) carried by support discs (12, 13) for rotation about horizontal pipe (14) which serves as an axle. Unfiltered water enters one end of pipe (14) and is constrained by a disc (26) to pass through a slot (27) onto vanes (19) also carried by the support discs. Incoming water passes through the filter cylinder leaving particles retained inside the cylinder which is rotated by the incoming water impinging on the vanes. These particles are discharged into receptacle (30) communicating through aperture (28) downstream of the disc whereby the filtrate is discharged from the other end of pipe (14). A second filter cylinder (49) may be similarly mounted coaxially outside the filter cylinder (11) for rotation in the same manner, and provides a finer filtration, its filtrate being discharged through receptacle (50) and the other end of pipe(14). The filtrate can be water-borne dirt, blood or plankton.</p> |
