During the additional welding of folds connecting a base or lid to the body of a metal vessel, the laser beam (3) is directed towards the body (1) and into the angle formed between the generating lines of the body (1) and the fold (6) so that a corner-reflector-like optical trap for reflected portions of the laser beam is formed, which optical trap is also able to compensate for slight directional and focusing errors. To carry out the procedure, a clamping device is used for vessels, and the laser generator producing the laser beam (3) is directed into the gap which is formed between the fold (6) and the outer circumference of the body (1), the body being moved, preferably rotated, relative to the laser beam at welding speed by means of a drive device. The invention can also be realised in such a way that the laser beam (3) is directed into the gap which appears between the inner circumference of the body and the extension of a lid or base inserted into the end of the body. <IMAGE> |
