A TCXO including a series capacitance is improved by having the temperature sensitivity of the series load capacitance be chosen in accordance with the formula TCL=TCo+2 TK/(1- alpha o) wherein TCL is the temperature coefficient of the series load capacitor, TCo is the temperature coefficient of the resonator static capacitance, TK is the temperature coefficient of the piezoelectric coupling for the resonator, and alpha o is the center value of load factor alpha and wherein the load factor, alpha , is defined as <IMAGE> wherein Co is the resonator static capacitance and CL is the series load capacitance.
