PURPOSE:To make the separate provision of a safety switching unit and a paper existence detecting switch unnecessary by providing an activating means which activates the detecting switch when an upper unit is closed in a condition where an image forming unit is loaded to an image forming unit loading part of the upper unit. CONSTITUTION:The detecting switch 61 is provided in the upper unit 3 or a lower unit 2, and the activating means 47 which activates the detecting switch 61 when the upper unit 3 is closed on the image forming unit loading part 30 of the upper unit 3, in the condition where the image forming unit 11 is loaded, is provided. Therefore the detecting switch 61 is only turned on by the activating means 47 when it is in the condition where the image forming unit 11 is attached to the upper unit 3 and closed, and when the unit 3 is closed with the image forming unit 11 unloaded the detecting switch 61 is not activated. Thus, power supply to various constitutional devices based on signal from the detecting switch can be controlled, and at the same time, the loading/ unloading of the image forming unit can be detected, and it becomes unnecessary to separately provide the detecting switch for power control and the detecting switch of the image forming unit.
