The invention aims to extend the field of protection of a circuit or network equipped with a differential-current circuit breaker, by producing a preventive cut-off by the circuit breaker before the appearance of an electrical fault in the network. A sensor 46, 57 responsive to an arbitrary physical quantity is coupled to an electronic module 45, 60 configured so as to trigger the circuit breaker 41. For example, such a module 45 can create in the network 8 a differential current which reaches at least the threshold of sensitivity of the circuit breaker. Another type of electronic module 60 can emit, in the network, a high-frequency signal intended for a decoding module 64 which actuates a conventional circuit 20 for testing the circuit breaker. Applications to the protection of circuits or electrical networks with the aid of sensors, especially as regards the risks of fire, flooding, as well as permanent overvoltages or undervoltages in the network. <IMAGE>
