Process for testing the impermeability of sheathing products (16) made from a soft material of small thickness, especially, as in surgical latex gloves or a condom, characterized in that it consists in introducing into the product (16) a gas (34), the pressure of which exceeds that of the ambient gas and in displaying the leak jets by using polarized interferometric means. The optical device is characterized in that it comprises a light source (12), a separating blade (34), a first device (15) for processing the incident beam, a concave mirror (18), a second device (22) for processing the reflected beam, a video camera (24), a display screen (26) and a support for the product located upstream from the mirror in the path of the incidental beam.
