The subject invention concerns novel methods for synthesizing genes encoding polypeptides having specified compositions of amino acids, but having random amino acid sequences. The novel synthesis procedure of the subject invention can also be used as part of a method for identifying amino acid polymers with biological and/or immunological activity.
