PURPOSE:To obtain a lightweight molded carbonaceous body excellent in compression elasticity by mixing elastic graphite particles with a binder, molding the resultant mixture and providing a molded body having a limited bulk density and recovery ratio. CONSTITUTION:Elastic graphite particles are mixed with a binder and the resultant mixture is molded to afford a molded carbonaceous body having <=1.0g/cm<3> bulk density and >=50% recovery ratio at 5-50% compression ratio. Carbonaceous mesophase, etc., produced by heat-treating pitches, such as petroleum-based or coal-based pitches, are exemplified as the preferred elastic graphite substance used. Pitches, such as coal tar pitch, bulk mesophase, thermosetting resin, thermoplastic resin, etc., are preferably used as the binder. The binder is preferably used in a form of addition, such as powder, sheet or film. |
