PURPOSE:To react CO with O2 and convert both into CO2 gas, by bringing a mixed gas containing the CO and O2 into contact with a catalyst containing silver or gold in the form of a metal or metallic compound thereof. CONSTITUTION:Silver or gold or both in the form of a metal or metallic compound thereof are supported on a carrier, e.g. alumina, silica alumina or silica, and an alkali metal or a compound thereof is added to the carrier to permit the continuous operation of the resultant catalyst for a long term. The supported catalyst is brought into contact with a mixed gas containing CO and O2 under ordinary or higher pressure at ordinary temperature or above to react the CO with O2 easily and convert both into inert CO2 gas. The method is used as a process for removing a small amount of O2 or removing the CO. |
