A novel antiscale agent based on polymeric compositions. The objective of the invention is to produce an active, noncorrosive and inexpensive antiscale agent. This objective is attained with the aid of an antiscale agent characterised in that it consists of a water-soluble polymeric composition obtained by polymerisation of an alkali metal organosilicate and of at least one acid with fewer than 20 carbon atoms. This agent can be employed in ground water, a water course or the sea.
