The invention relates to a self-starting synchronous motor having a permanent-magnet rotor (7) which is mounted to come out with rotation play on the rotor shaft (10), between two limiting stops of a coupling component (12) which is arranged on the rotor shaft (10) and is to be driven by it. In order to make such synchronous motors suitable for relatively large drive powers as well, the coupling component (12) which is to be driven by the rotor (7) has a spring element (13) which stresses the rotor shaft (10), likewise with the interposition of a moulding (14), and forms the limiting stops, and whose friction torque with respect to the rotor shaft (10) on the one hand ensures the reliable transmission of the motor torque required in the operating mode but on the other hand results in the coupling component (12) sliding through on the rotor shaft (10) in the event of the movement energy occurring during starting of the rotor (7) and while it is being braked. <IMAGE>
