PURPOSE:To provide a water-absorbing composite body which is suitable for use as a dehydrating agent, a drying agent, etc., has excellent water absorption properties and exhibits excellent wet strength, heat resistant, etc., by coating the entire surface of each particle of inorg. powder with a highly water-absorbing resin. CONSTITUTION:A mixed soln. of a hydrophilic polymer and a crosslinking agent which finally makes said hydrophilic polymer insoluble and convert into a highly water-absorbing resin, such as glycerol diglycidyl ether or ethylenediamine, is prepd. Inorg. powder such as kaolin, clay or precipitated calcium carbonate is mixed therewith. The mixture is dried and heat-treated to coat the entire surface of each particle of the inorg. powder with the highly water-absorbing resin, whereby the desired water-absorbing composite body can be obtd. Example of said hydrophilic polymers for preparing said highly water-absorbing resin are sodium salt of an isobutylene/maleic anhydride copolymer and polysodium acrylate. |
