The cheese (10) is supported by twom rollers (2) with rubber coverings. The centre of the cheese is gripped between spring-loaded pressure plates (26, 27) which rotate it about a horizontal axis and can move it horizontally along the axis. A brush device applies an edible adhesive to the outside surface of the cheese and the guaze tape (M(B)) is drawn from a supply assembly (7) as the cheese rotates.
