The invention relates to a process for the selective enzymatic hydroxylation of quinoline in position 2. The reaction takes place with a quinoline oxide reductase isolated from suitable microorganisms in the presence of an electron acceptor in aqueous solution at a pH of 7.0-8.0 and at a temperature in the range 20-30@C.
