The invention relates to an effervescent product for the preparation of an oral rehydration solution for the treatment of diarrhoea. The product comprises oligosaccharides and/or disaccharides, and/or monosaccarides and/or amino acids as energy carriers, and (bi)carbonate and a bicarbonate precursor as alkalising substances. The product has the form of a tablet or a powder.
