PURPOSE: To enhance braking characteristics by interposing three-way valves which are freely switched between a first position wherein brake pressure is increased and a second position wherein the pressure is decreased, in parts of front and rear wheel brake circuits, and cyclically operating the three-way valves for switching during anti-lock control. CONSTITUTION: In a system in which the pressurization chamber of a master cylinder 12 is connected to a front-wheel brake circuit via a line 13 and to a rear-wheel brake circuit via a line 15 in which a pressure regulating valve 14 intervenes, a normally open shutoff valve 28 and a three-way pressure control valve 29 intervene in a part of the line 15. Shutoff valves 46, 51 and three-way pressure control valves 47, 53 intervene in branch lines branching from the line 13 and leading to front wheel brakes 16, 17, and the valves 28, 29 and 46, 47, 51, 53 are controlled by a central control device 21. Each of the three-way pressure control valves 29, 47, 53 can be switched between a first position wherein pressure to a wheel brake is increased and a second position wherein the pressure is increased and, during anti-lock control, is cyclically operated for switching for a predetermined time.
