A stitch holder is provided which takes no part in forming of stitches but which is adapted to serve the sole purpose of holding, during temporary interruption of a knitting operation, the front stitch row of a knitted work which has already been formed by a separate circular knitting needle. The stitch holder includes an elongated flexible main body which is adapted to support a circular row of already knitted stitches. A rigid tip is directly fixed at one of its ends to one end of the main body. A block member is provided with a first through hole for directly receiving the other end of the main body, and with a second through hole arranged side-by-side with the first through hole, the second through hole being so sized as to allow passage therethrough of the rigid tip, the block member being slidably positionable at any part of the rigid tip or of the main body, for adjustment of the diameter of the stitch holder. Thus, the front row stitches on the stitch holder can be prevented from becoming unravelled. In addition, the front row stitches on the stitch holder can be prevented from being locally stretched, with the result that a regularly cylindrical form of the article being knitted can be maintained.
|
