<p>Tools for Disassembling Universal Joints Tools for the disassembly of a universal joint comprise two embodiments, a push-type tool and a pull-type tool. With respect to the push-type tool (FIGURE 6), a cylinder/piston combination (18, 20) is mounted on a pushing or support assembly (80), and the cylinder/piston combination (18, 20) is operated to force the piston (20) against the support assembly (80), which in turn exerts a pushing force on the cross (intersection point of the yoke members) of the universal joint. At the same time, the cylinder (18), which is connected to the near end of a yoke member of the universal joint, exerts a pulling force on the universal joint, thereby forcing a journal bearing out of the yoke member. In the pull-type tool (FIGURE 3), a cylinder/piston combination (18, 20) interposed between a pulling assembly (12, 14, 16) and a pushing assembly (28, 30) operates to cause the exertion of pulling and pushing forces on the universal joint, so that a journal bearing is forced out of the universal joint.</p> |
