A method is disclosed for determining the arthritic component such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis in blood products such as blood serum or plasma, wherein a source of blood plasma or serum, or alternately synovial fluid is provided, and the galactose content in such material is then analyzed, which may then be compared with the corresponding normal values of galactose.
