PURPOSE: To enhance the durability of an assembly such as an aircraft windshield by laminating an outer glass layer and an inner polycarbonate ply board, holding the edge of the glass layer by means of strap member, and fixing the whole assembly including the strap members. CONSTITUTION: A windshield assembly 10 comprises an outer glass layer 12 secured to an inner polycarbonate ply board 16 via an inner layer 14. The edge 22 of the outer glass layer 12 is held by locking straps 18, 20 bonded to both sides thereof by a high-strength adhesive such as a structural epoxy reformed to fit glass. The straps 18, 20 are extended outward and made to overlap each other, and a wedge part 26 defined therebetween is filled with a filler. The overlap of the straps 18, 20, together with the ply board 16, is fixed between retainers 28, 30 via sealants 42, 44 by fastening of a bolt 36. |
