PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramic sliding member which is excellent in mechanical strength, wear resistance and seizing resistance by constituting the ceramic sliding member of both Si3N4 as a main component and a sintered body contg. Y, Mg and Ce and regulating the contents of these components to a specified rate. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic sliding member is constituted of both Si3N4 as a main component and a sintered body contg. Y, Mg and Ce. Y is 2-20wt.% expressed in terms of Y2O3 and Mg is 1-10wt.% expressed in terms of MgO and Ce is 0. 1-0.9wt.% expressed in terms of CeO2 and the balance is Si3N4. In the above-mentioned member, Ce amount is lowered at small quantity and therefore the amount of CeO7 produced by oxidation of CeO2 is lowered even in the high-temp. conditions. Further, when Ce is regulated to >=1wt.% expressed in terms of CeO2, deterioration of strength after oxidation is made large and made remarkable according to increase of Ce amount. On the other hand, when Ce is regulated to <=0.1wt.% expressed in terms of CeO2, deterioration in strength is made remarkable and the ceramic sliding member is made undurable for practical use. |
