PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramic sliding member which is excellent in mechanical strength, wear resistance and seizing resistance by molding the proportioning powder contg. Si3N4 being a main component, Y2O3, MgO and CeO2 at a specified rate and calcining this molded body in the inert gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Si3N4 being a main component, 2-20wt.% Y2O3, 0.1-0.9wt.% MgO having <=1500Angstrom mean particle diameter and a sintering auxiliary contg. 1-10wt.% CeO2 are mixed and pulverized. The obtained proportioning powder is molded. Then the aimed sliding member is obtained by calcining this molded body at 1600-1850 deg.C in the inert gas atmosphere. In the obtained sliding member, wear resistance and seizing resistance are sufficiently secured. Further since the sintering auxiliary is utilized, MgO is easily made particulate when both Si3N4 being the main component and the sintering auxiliary are mixed and pulverized. Dispersibility of MgO in the sintered body is made extremely good and the high-strength ceramic sliding member is obtained. |
