发明名称 METHOD FOR DETECTING PRINCIPAL AXIS ANGLE OF POLARIZATION MAINTAINING FIBER
摘要 PURPOSE:To accomplish accurate alignment by adding stress to a polarization maintaining fiber from a side surface so that maintainability of polarized wave may be changed and obtaining the principal axis angle of the polarization maintaining fiber from the change of the maintainability of polarized wave before and after adding the stress. CONSTITUTION:The coating part 9 of the polarization maintaining fiber 4 is housed in a coating part housing groove 12 whose cross section is V-shaped and a coating removed part 8 obtained by removing the coating of one part is housed in a coating removed part housing groove 11 respectively, then they are temporarily fixed on a jig base plate 10. Pressure is applied to the fiber 4 from the side surface by means of a push spring 15 through a push plate 14 so as to evaluate the maintainability of polarized wave of the fiber 4. Next, the pressure applied to the fiber 4 is released and the fiber 4 is rotated a little. Thereafter, the pressure is applied to the fiber 4 again so as to evaluate the maintainability of polarized wave. The above operations are repeated. In such a case, by making the angle of rotating the fiber 4 larger at first and gradually smaller, the fiber is aligned at the desired angle with small rotating times.
